The 10 Best Tattoo Shops in San Jose (2026)
Our list of the 10 best tattoo shops in San Jose is built from Google review data and updated for 2026 using a Bayesian-style score that weights average rating by review volume. That keeps highly rated small shops visible while recognizing studios with substantial review counts. San Jose’s tattoo scene stretches across neighborhood corridors such as Story Road, Stevens Creek and W San Carlos, with options for first pieces, cover-ups and touch-ups. This guide focuses on measurable feedback — star ratings and review counts — to help locals and visitors narrow choices without relying on hearsay.
This ranking is computed from Google reviews (our method). Listings marked Partner are paid advertising spots: they sit alongside the ranking without changing its order.

Inkk Dynasty
Inkk Dynasty comes out on top because it combines a perfect 5.0 Google rating with the largest review total on this list (279 reviews). Our Bayesian-style weighting favors businesses that sustain top ratings at scale, so a high score plus heavy review volume moves a shop to the front. The listing places Inkk Dynasty on Story Road in the 95122 area, and that mix of rating and review count is why it ranks number one here.

Frequently asked questions
How should I choose a tattoo shop in San Jose?
Look for shops whose portfolios match the style you want, read recent reviews to gauge consistency, and check that artists share clear photos of healed work. Also confirm the studio’s licensing, visible hygiene practices, and whether you can schedule a consultation before committing.
What factors determine the cost of a tattoo?
Price depends on size, placement, complexity and the artist’s experience; many shops charge by the hour for larger pieces and offer flat rates for small tattoos. Ask for an estimate in a consultation so you understand scope, time and any deposit requirements.
What should I check before booking an appointment?
Verify the studio’s cleanliness, ask about sterilization and single-use needles, and request to see identification or licensing if applicable. It’s also wise to review cancellation, deposit and aftercare instructions before your appointment.
How was this ranking created?
This list is based on Google review data and updated for 2026 using a Bayesian-style score that weights average star rating by the number of reviews. That method balances high ratings with review volume so highly rated shops with many reviews rank well.
